BIOGRAPHY, TOM SHANDEL
Tom Shandel, President of Getaway Films Inc, producer, director & writer has been producing film and television documentary and drama since 1969 for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Global, CityTV, TVOntario, Bravo!, VisionTV & BCs Knowledge Network and public broadcasters in Alberta, Saskatchewan in Canada; for Public Broadcasting System in the United States, BBC & Channel 4 in England, and for major TV worldwide. Born and raised in Winnipeg, grades 11 and 12 in Burnaby, BC, BA Theatre, University of British Columbia, '62 and Diploma in Communications, Stanford University, '66. After working as an actor in the theatre in Vancouver, Toronto & London, began writing and producing documentaries for CBC Radio which led inevitably to being trained in film and then video production by CBC and National Film Board. While advocacy and social issues documentaries as an independent producer dominated, Shandel directed and produced two feature length films, writing and directing ANOTHER SMITH FOR PARADISE a theatrical feature in 1972 and in 1984, directing and co-producing WALLS a made-for TV movie.
